The International Standard for Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001/ EMS) was developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 provides the requirements for an environmental management system that an organization can implement to improve its environmental performance. It is designed for organisations that want to align their environmental responsibilities systematically.
This includes requirements such as enhancing an organization’s environmental performance by minimising detrimental environmental consequences produced by its activities and obligations to safeguard the environment and avoid pollution at all levels of the business. ISO 14001 assists an organization in achieving the intended goals of its environmental management system, which benefit the environment, the enterprise, and other stakeholders. It also improves environmental performance, cost control, and risk reduction.
There are no specific environmental performance indicators in ISO 14001:2015.To effectively enhance environmental management, ISO 14001:2015 can be used whole or in part. Claims of ISO 14001:2015 compliance, on either side, are only valid if all of the standard’s requirements are incorporated into an organization’s environmental management system and met without exception.
