Initially, you must complete the two-day – Foundations of Capability (FOC) course. Post FOC course, you need to attend either  Building Service Excellence (for CMMI-SVC appraisal) or Building Development Excellence (for a CMMI-DEV appraisal) or. For learning any domains, other than DEV and Services, one should take the 4 days course called Building Organizational Capability. This course covers all the contents of CMMI model including Foundations of Capability (FOC), Building Development and services Excellence and focus on all 8 domains.

The PE exam is more challenging and extensive, consisting of 120 questions over four hours, compared to the AE, which has 60 questions over 2.5 hours. The PE assesses knowledge across 14 additional domain-specific practice areas not covered in the AE. Courses such as Building Development Excellence and Building Service Excellence do not include exams; attendance is sufficient to qualify as an ATM.
